GENERAL
DESCRIPTION: Specification covers the furnishing and installation of translucent insulated prime windows (DG-111), or overglazing panels
and frames (DG-11), as manufactured by Duo-Gard Industries Inc. of Westland, Mi.
SUBMITTALS
Contractor shall submit: Shop Drawings, including system dimensions, framed opening requirements and tolerances, materials, drainage,
expansion and contraction joints; Product Data, including dimensions, description of components within the assembly, anchoring, fasteners,
panel configuration, structural and physical characteristics of the framing, dimensional limitations, and special installation requirements;
Sample of complete insulated window panel, plus separate pieces of aluminum sash, and gasket.
Contractor shall provide, at owner's request, a detailed energy usage and heat loss analysis along with energy and/or operational pay-back
projections based on bid price.
DELIVERY, STORAGE & HANDLING
DELIVERY. Carefully load panels, with masking on each face, at manufacturing plant to minimize damage during transit. Palletize windows
to completely protect from the elements. Deliver windows with a clear and comprehensive labeling and sequential loading system for a
smooth, systematic installation.
STORAGE: Schedule delivery to job site to minimize on-site storage time. Raise pallets clear above ground on shipping spacer blocks at
job site. Locate and cover to protect against damage by staining agents and traffic.
HANDLING: Provide sufficient personnel and equipment to lift, position, and place panels in appropriate locations on building without
damage. Installer shall inspect each window panel for damage and defects prior to positioning, make repairs on-site when possible, and
replace units which cannot be restored to original condition.
WARRANTY: Panels shall be warranted from hail breakage and yellowing more than 10 delta (ASTM D1 925) for 10 years min. Availability
of replacement parts shall be guaranteed for 10 years.
PRODUCTS
MATERIALS AND DESIGN COMPOSITE PANELS: Interior and Exterior panels (DG-111)/Exterior panel (DG-11): shall consist of
polycarbonate structured sheets (PCSS). UV stabilization shall be coextruded into the panels, not coated. Applied Insulation Laminate: shall
be a sheet of closed cell polyethylene foam.
Adhesive: The PCSS panel(s) shall be laminated to the polyethylene foam sheet with a water soluble styrene butadiene adhesive in a
controlled, mechanically-pressured process.
Completed composite panel: Shall be no greater than .750"/19.1mm (DG-111), .563"/14.3mm (DG-11) thick and weigh no more than .750
lb. per sq.ft./3.66kg/m2(DG-llI), .600 lb. per sq. ft/2.93kg/m2(DG-ll).
WINDOW FRAMES: Composite panels shall be encased in an extruded aluminum framing system. All aluminum shall be 6063-T5. All
aluminum shapes shall conform to the Voluntary Specifications for Aluminum Extrusion Design by the Architectural Aluminum Manufacturers
Association (AAMA), the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), and the Federal Specification for extruded aluminum members,
QQ-A-200/9c(l). No wall thickness of any shape shall be less than .055" (1.40mm).
SEALANT. Factory caulking, where applicable, shall be a clear, gunnable, non-hardening sealant meeting the following specifications:
ASTM C-920-79 for elastomeric joint sealants Type S, Class 12, Grade NS, and the Fed. Spec. TT-S-001657 Type 1.n. Field caulking
around opening and joints, as required, shall be with manufacturer's approved compound. All caulking shall be applied in a neat, continuous
bead, to a sufficient depth, tooled in a timely fashion, according to sealant manufacturer's instructions, and provide a weather-proof seal
against air, light, dirt, ice, water, and moisture vapor through extreme temperature changes.
FASTENERS: All field fastener types, quantities, and usage shall conform to manufacturer's instructions. All fasteners shall be zinc coated,
cadmium plated, or stainless steel to prevent oxidation or electrolytic interaction with framing members, and finished to match the panel
framing. All aluminum-to-aluminum connections shall be with self-drilling screws, #10 (4mm) and #12 (5mm), of sufficient length for full thread
engagement. All masonry anchoring fasteners shall be of a type to adequately engage material.
